3 Reasons You Should Wear Cheap Jeans!

How much do you spend on your jeans?

Jeans are a mainstay in almost everyone's closet. I would imagine most women own 3-5 pair on average....  Let's not talk about the fashion conscious or the 'I live in my jeans' woman! Every season we're bombarded with the latest cut, wash, embellishment and more. You can easily spend a car note on your jeans. Personally I like to be in the know, and being in the know comes with a price!

A while back I decided to buy quality, invest in my staple jeans and go cost effective on the ever changing trends. Now that doesn't mean I don't troll the racks of Nordstrom Rack for staple jeans, but my purpose for this post is; why spend $150 or more on purple waxed coated designer jeans when next season they will be outdated. Instead spend a low to moderate amount on your fad jeans, that way you don’t feel it in your pockets. There are plenty of ways to keep up with the Jones' and not have spent the Jones' type of funds. Quick tips on how to score:

  • Rationalize what's important to you. Having a good pair of staple jeans are important to me (dark wash skinny jeans or classic blue bootcut) and will last. I just recently said farewell to my dark denim Joe's skinny after 4 years!  They were good to me!  So if you can splurge on your staples.
If you desire jeans over $100 but the price tag isn't realistic for you, shop at places like Nordstrom Rack, Last Call,  Marshall's or TJ Maxx for your staple jeans and even some trendy ones.
  • When you think Nordstrom you usually think designer, but Nordstrom has great, trendy and affordable labels like STS Blue, BLANKNYC, Kut from the Kloth, and never forget the power of the sales section! Also, let's not forget H&M, Zara, Topshop, Urban outfitters and old faithful Forever 21.
  • Do a cost-per-wear analysis: staple jeans like your classic skinny, straight leg or bootcut are going to be styles you wear at least once a week.  Here's an example: if you buy a pair of AG jeans for $168 and wear them every Friday to work for six months, the jeans come out to $7 every time you wear them! That makes sense. Now what doesn't make sense is buying a pair of  embroidered skinny jeans for $198 that A) may not be in style next year, or B) that are signature so that when you wear them it's  "oh...those jeans again".  So to avoid that you wear them on a schedule: once for date night, once for brunch, that weekend you went to visit your friend outta town (because no one knows you there so the jeans are new to them) Oh and the one time you're going to a concert and have nothing to wear and then see them after 6 months of not wearing them and have to figure out how to reinvent them....  So that comes up to four times!  Divide $198 by 4 and that's $49.50. You can however buy a similar pair of jeans from a more reasonable retailer for $79.90 and still win in your pocket and in style. At $19.90 not bad!
