This Little Piggy (Easy Shoe Hacks To Try.... NOW!)
There are two things you can never have too many of; good friends and good shoes. However, we have all experienced the caveats that can come along with a great pair of shoes. Scuffed heels, blisters, pain, and the worst of them all… when your favorite pair finally has to be retired due to being damaged or worn beyond repair. A die hard shoe girl will endure some unsavory conditions in the name of style while still following the number one shoe rule: If you chose to wear them out, you wear them home, no excuses, no taking them off, no going barefoot in public! About 2 years ago I saw a shoe tip on http://www.brooklynblonde.com/ that has since caught on like wildfire. The genius tip: tape your third and fourth toe together to combat foot pain. If you haven’t tried this, you need to do so ASAP. It’s a game changer. I decided to pass along some more tips that I’ve learned over time.
Shop For Shoes In the Evening-
Shop for shoes in the evening - By the time you reach 5pm, your feet have been put to the test from your commute on the train, work, errands, working out, chasing your toddler, etc. Highlight the one that applies to you! So by evening your feet are as big as they will be all day and that will make for buying a more comfortable shoe. You may not be able to do this for all shoes but I would strongly suggest it for boots and structured (another word for tight) pumps/heels/stilettos.
Temporary Shoe Caps-
It is the absolute worst when you’re planning an outfit and break out the shoes you had in mind and they need a heel cap. Then you try to wear them and damage your shoe more. Like the horrible sound of nails on a chalkboard, so is the sound of a capless heel that is waiting to start a fire from scraping the ground. Invest in a quick saver with temporary heel caps like “Quick Tips Lite”. They’ll bail you out for a night till you can make it to the shoe shop.
Heel Protectors-
We have all been to a friends garden wedding or an outdoor summer luncheon and have worn our highest heel only to sink into the grass repeatedly, try to balance on our toes all night and get home to our heels covered in mud. Buy a pair of heel protectors. They are temporary, come in clear or black and are discreet enough to wear till you make it back to non sinking land.
Hairspray Or Panty Liners-
Hairspray or panty liners - You know that pair of heels you love to wear for a night out that start out perfect but by night’s end your toes feel crumpled and bruised from your foot sliding forward in them? But you forget that until you get ready to wear them. Look no further than your bathroom. Use your hardest holding hairspray and spray the bottom of your feet (not the shoe) to prevent sliding. If you don’t have hairspray, grab a panty liner and line your shoe. Voila, you’re in business!
Pitch & Slope-
How high is too high? The distance between the toe and heel in your shoe can make all the difference in whether or not you’ll be limping by the end of the day. Because not all high heels are alike, you want to pay attention to the distance between the heel and the sole of your shoe. The more room between them, the more comfortable your shoe will be. The higher the shoe, there’s probably less distance between the heel and the sole meaning less comfort. When buying a shoe in person, try to go for the pair with more distance between the heel and sole. Compare shoes in how they feel and side by side to see which has a shorter slope (space between heel and toe). If you are looking online,\ grab a ruler to measure multiple styles right on your screen and do some comparing. Nothing like buying a shoe online and it hurts like heck or doesn’t fit. Been there done that!
